Ahead of the Green Deal Plan’s launch on the 28th January, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) have launched its Cashback Scheme.

The Green Deal Cashback Scheme will provide hundreds of pounds of cash to householders in England and Wales who make energy saving home improvements.

Households who use the Green Deal to make improvements such as loft insulation, solid wall insulation and new heating systems will qualify. Packages could be worth over £1,000.

The Cashback scheme aims to incentivise householders to take up the Green Deal. It aims to help as many people as possible to benefit from energy efficiency measures and the more work households decide to have done, the more cash they could receive.

Richard Lambert, Chief Executive Officer of the National Landlords Association (NLA), says:

“The NLA welcomes the launch of the Green Deal Cashback Scheme. The Green Deal is already set to save landlords thousands of pounds in the cost of energy efficiency measures. That means tenants could see their fuel bills reduce significantly as a result. However, with the added benefit of the Cashback Scheme, tenants are likely to save even more, potentially hundreds of pounds – a significant incentive for tenants to agree to the Green Deal.

“We hope that landlords will guide their tenants through the process of making energy improvements when the Green Deal launches at the end of the month. The Green Deal really is landlords’ opportunity to show they can improve their properties’ energy efficiency without the burden of regulation.”
