Southampton, a modern vibrant city full of surprises
Situated on the south coast Southampton is a fast growing modern vibrant city and major UK port, the Bargate and the old city walls are a reminder of Southampton’s historical past, the old Town still has an historic charm. If modern water front living is what you are looking for, then checkout Ocean Village, with its Marina, restaurants, bars, and shops. Southampton has something to offer everyone, which makes it a fascinating and a great place to call home.
Southampton has a superb selection of high quality shopping centres, along with traditional shops and boutiques; West Quay home to Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Dune and Zara, at one end of the precinct the Bargate and at the other end The Mall Southampton. One of the newest additions to Southampton is IKEA and it’s no surprise, with this combination Southampton is one of the top 10 retail destinations in the UK.
With many beautiful parks and gardens Southampton is known as the green city of Southern England, from Grade II listed parks with elaborate fountains, imposing sculptures, rose gardens and a traditional bandstand where you can relax, play a game of tennis, croquet, test your putting skills or may be just wander and enjoy the parks, Southampton Common where once livestock grazed and home to Southampton’s race course, the site of the old zoo
which is now The Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre. The Common is a haven for flora and fauna and designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Southampton is a lively place for nightlife, around the city, with a wide choice of venues, from theatre, cinemas, historic pubs, nightclub, funky bars, music venues, and lounges for that intimate drink to clubs where you can party the night away. Don’t fancy cooking at home? Then eat out, Southampton range of international cuisine has something for everyone, you can find Italian, Greek, American diners, Indian, Thai and of course Chinese or for something less formal try the bars and restaurants elegant cafés of Oxford Street.
Southampton has superb transport links with the rest of the country, just to the north of the city is the M27 going east and West joining with the M3 for London, getting around the city and further afield is very easy with all the public transport links, to get you home at the end of the evening you can catch the night bus. The main London to Waterloo Line will take you to London about 1.25 hours; also on this line Southampton International Airport at Eastleigh has its own station.
